I DO NOT want conversation when getting a cut. I'd prefer it if they just concentrate on my hair. Also, I'm usually just trying to relax and have a think about stuff when getting my haircut. I do not want to talk about my life story or anything else really. I will actually tip a hair cutter a higher rate if no conversation was had.

Just gimme a good haircut, please and thank you.

Give a big tip and go back to the same stylist every time and establish a relationship.

Don't you have friends? Why the urgent need to talk to the hair stylist?

Yes, I have many friends but it seems strange to sit down right next to someone for thirty minutes and not say a word. If you don't want to talk, that is your business but an effective hairstylist is friendly not uncommunicative.

YES!!!! Heavens, I can't stand it. I go to the same person and she evens asks how my mother is!! Huh? my mother who is 1,000 miles away, whom you've never met???

I agree with the many who just want a good cut and no chatter. Zip it!!!

AGAIN for the third time to all you unsociable people, if YOU want to sit in silence during your haircut, while that would be odd to me, it is your choice. But if I ran a salon and was sitting at the desk and overheard a customer try to make conversation with the stylist and she only replied in one word bored answers, that person would be fired. The CUSTOMER should set the tone in this situation.

I agree. I have NEVER been to a hair cut chain where the stylist didn't schmooze with me, and the other employees have always talked with THEIR customers, as well. OP, do they speak English where you go for your haircuts?

I DON'T try to make small talk with her. She asks me how I am... I say, fine, nothing else. But she goes on from there. I'm trapped at this point. I'm the customer, I don't want to talk, I want to get in and get out. Very easy... so you would think.
