I have a friend who is drinking heavily this Thanksgiving weekend and I believe that he is alone. Do you have any friends that spends Thanksgiving alone and drinks very hard?

Can you invite him to join you or your family for dinner or other ?
activities?

That is what we do if we know lonely people.

Also, many AA "club halls" are open on holidays. I have been told that they are a great place to find good company and conversations for lonely people on holidays. Can you go with your friend to a club hall?

I guess I am one of the few that likes being alone on Thanksgiving day, staying in my pajamas, drinking 3-4 glasses of wine and watching movies all day.
There are those that misses certain people and can't seem to enjoy this holiday and don't wanna go anywhere. If one or 2 people would randomly drop in, it will let your frriend know he is cared about. Maybe bring a movie or 2 and see if he'd wanna watch them while you're there.

I feel bad for your friend. What did you decide to do?

I've been drinking heavily all evening. It's freezing rain out there! I'm in my sweats and wouldn't want to go to anyone's house or shopping.

Sometimes people just want to drink. If he's holding down a job and not a problem to anyone, leave him alone and let him work it out for himself.

This is one of many reasons, I am grateful I don't drink anymore. There have been times the last few months, (and the Holidays are rough), that I would have loved a glass of wine or two. Enjoy the taste, enjoy the good feeling; though short lived. I just don't like the way liquor makes me feel after 2 drinks, or so. Hate hangovers.....I figured I lost months, maybe years attributed to drinking and hangovers.

Anyhoo, I am older, now and I don't want to start drinking, again......I don't think it is good for brain health or health, in general. Lots of alcoholism in my family..........

Try to help your friend.........there are lots of things we can do besides drinking.....take a long walk, bake for your friends, movies, card games................good luck and Happy sane, sober, Holidays.
