I was in a similar situation, and I bought some cupcakes from the local cupcake place for the neighbor (it was a guy who helped).
Flowers would be nice, too, or something home baked.
I'd go for gift certificate, or some baked goods done by a professional. Someone bringing me baked goods from their home does not get eaten...not their fault, I've just seen how unsanitary far too many people are.
Thank you Card? Small gift card? I don't know. How do you say thank you for something like that?
I did something similar for a neighbor. I noticed water coming out of her garage and knocked on her door to tell her. A pipe had broken. She thanked me and that was enough.....but.....a few days later she gave me some bakery-made cookies as a thank you.
Its our first winter in a cold climate and our neighbor noticed something amiss with our house that was weather related that was going to cost us a load (I would have never noticed). She checked it out and then came to our door to let us know so we could address it before it got way out of hand. I want to thank her more then just the "oh crap, thanks" I managed to get out before going out to fix it.
Thank you Card? Small gift card? I don't know. How do you say thank you for something like that? She's a nice lady, a little reserved, but overall nice and has been helpful. Maybe I should just wait until I see her and thank her once again in a more sincere way for looking out for us?
A thank you card with a nice personal note would be great.
I would avoid a food gift unless it's something you know for a fact that she eats, and that she can eat. You wouldn't want to give cookies to a diabetic, for example; or something non-vegan to a vegan.
So many people are so easily offended these days. A good neighbor can turn into a bad one over the slightest thing. A thank you card is never offensive.
A bottle of wine would be nice if you think she'll like it.
