I was hanging out with my friends, and there was a new girl in the group who was friends with someone else in my group. I'm always pretty chill, just making jokes and making people laugh like always, but then this chick said something like "haha he's like a clown" and my jaw dropped. Like<bleep> , I know you for five minutes and you say this sort of about me. I just brushed it off and then said something I don't remember and then she was like "see, you're like a clown, you're like a baby" and then at that point I felt legit offended. I actually felt humiliated. If another guy told me this it would definitely deserve a punch or two

I'm sorry but you just cant call people out like that. Especially since telling a guy he's a clown, I feel like that's one of the worst things you can tell to a guy. In the middle of a group no less. What can I do about this? Loudly mention the mustache on her lip next time? Comment on her acne? Just forget it and move on? Change my sense of humor?

I wouldn't get so upset by it and I'd just blow it off. I'm sure she probably just meant it in a joking around way.

Having the ability to make people laugh is a gift, and people love to laugh.

You're too easily offended, I'm guessing you're on the young side by the acne comment.

She was actually complimenting you.

I had 3 different people tell me after my dad passed "your father could always put a smile on my face, he had a great sense of humor". And he really did.

The quickest way to get people to like you and accept you is to get them to laugh.

If you act like a clown, you get called a clown. You say you make jokes and make people laugh. So you reached your goal, you are funny. So why being offended?

And then you act immature about her comment and she calls you a baby.

Baby sounds more offensive, but you acted like one, soo ....

The clown thing I do not see as an insult at all.

I actually didn't say anything immature in response, I remember I nervously tried to say something out of shock but nothing immature. And obviously there is a good funny and a bad funny, people want to be Jerry Seinfeld sort of funny, not the George Costanza sort of funny

She didn't say you are stupid funny. She said you are a clown = funny. And if you are mature, you wouldn't see this as an insult. If you don't want to be seen as a clown, don't be so damn funny

Are Polish and in Poland? Maybe it is a cultural thing?

No I'm in Chile. If anything that makes it worse because I feel like "payaso" is a bit stronger than clown

Lol well thanks for showing another perspective, this reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Jerry was trying not to say anything funny and that just made him even funnier

I've never heard "clown" used as a complement. A clown is a goofy character that entertains kids with corny jokes and antics. If you think someone is funny you call them a "comedian". Shoulda just stared at her and pointed your finger at her like a gun.
