It is kinda similar to Mad Libs, but definitely R rated.

I've always been somewhat socially awkward, but one of the things that always brings me out of my shell is playing board/card games, especially ones designed for larger groups. I truly enjoy this sort of activity and would love to do it more except I don't get a lot of opportunities to do so. And lately, it seems like whenever people do get together for games, everybody's #1 choice is Cards Against Humanity.
Words cannot describe how much I dislike this game. And yes, I fully realize how it makes me look when I'm the only one who chooses to sit out, but I simply do not feel comfortable saying some of the things that are on those cards. I'm perfectly fine with "adult humor" in small doses, but to me this is overkill and it surprises me how many people love it. I've come across dozens of really fun party games over the years but somehow this is the one people keep coming back to.
I'm just curious if there are others who dislike this game. I'm starting to think it's just me.
It's a game dude, relax. Unclench and go play it. Most of the answers/fill in's are plain hilarious. It's just stupid funny.
Had never heard of it so I had to look it up. Sounds like a game of insults which I would not be comfortable playing. Not my kind of humour.
The Canadian version apparently contains jokes about Canadians (presumably composed by Americans). Don't know what they may be but probably akin to redneck jokes - and I have heard enough of those and there are never any good ones these days. Canadians can laugh at themselves but many of us don't find it funny when the jokes are not Canadian in origin. And, things can be funny but not insulting or mean-spirited - and I get the idea that unfortunately this game is both of those. Maybe best played by college aged kids who are drunk or high?
On the other hand, I would love a game that would provoke real discussion of issues and which could be played by a mixed group of liberals and conservatives (or Liberals and Conservatives north of the border).
It is not about insults, though the phrases maybe insulting.
Madlibs is a great analogy. You finish the sentence with the cards you have.
Fill in the blank:
Sean Penn brought [blank] to Haiti to help the earthquake victims.
Sample answers (I am making this up 100%):
Flesh eating zombies
Bill Clinton's mistress
Grandma's porn stash
Sarah Palin's glasses
The Holocaust
You choose the answer you think fits best and suits the answer pickers sense of humor.
Some cards are potty humor, some our rainchyband some are just plain distasteful.
But there is no insulting other people unless you have a crew of mean people who make fun of the answers. Usually we have lively debate on the best choice, depending on the crowd.
If CAH is looking for writers we found a good candidate here!!

The humor's juvenile (see jade's post above to get an idea--I forget the specifics, myself, but those invented samples seem in line with what one would find on the cards themselves, if memory at all serves). I played it once maybe five years ago with one friend and a few people whom I both didn't know and (as it turned out once I did in fact meet them) didn't like...even being drunk couldn't make the experience an enjoyable one. Nothing like sitting there drunk and stone-faced with four much-less-drunk people who are united in their perception of the game's entertainment value....
You will always find games you like that others don't, OP. What's the big deal?
We have CAH but there are certain people we don't play with because I know they wouldn't like it. Know your audience!
My husband is VERY into board games (strategy games, not this kind of stuff) and even in his gaming groups, he will tell me about a game that everyone loves or that is very popular but that he can't stand. That's pretty typical in terms of everyday sort of things, no?

Sure....maybe part of the OP's issue though is that they never play a different game that he would like more, so he's always on the outside with this group. That gives him the impression that maybe they don't care much about whether he enjoys himself or not. If there are so many games then why can't they mix it up a little? THAT seems a bit rude if it goes on over a long enough time. OP maybe can try to find some other folks or some meetup that does other games to balance out his current circle.

OP here. I'm not suggesting it's odd/unusual that I dislike something that others do. My original intent was simply to find out if there were others who shared my dislike in this case, because it seems like everyone I encounter loves this game.
My real issue here is that it seems like any time I get together with a new group of people for games, I end up sitting out while they play this one. It's not always the same people either. My closest friends probably wouldn't enjoy this either, but then again some of them don't care for games in general. So the problem becomes, I struggle to find anybody to play games with, and then when I find some people I end up sitting out and it's frustrating.
I never heard of it either. I don't know if it's appropriate for shorties but I would play it with adults. I love playing card and board games with my friends, especially if there's wine involved.
