She is only in her early 60's. I would have to look back through the posts but I seem to recall 64 as being the age. Not quite senior citizen.

She seems a lot better now. She said she was gonna focus on her sewing. I took her on one driving lesson and her anxiety was super high. She already chickened out on the second lesson.

Ha - my mom didn't quite threaten to kill herself when I moved cross-country 1.5 years ago but she still gives me grief all the time. I thought she'd get better with time, but no luck - she's almost as bad as the day I told her. I don't even consider it a guilt trip. I consider it something more cruel - I told my mom she was emotionally manipulating me - that went over well. However, I have zero regrets about moving and I'm back all the time (like four months out of the year - even spent Mother's Day weekend with her) because I still own a property 2 hours from her where I spend the summer and I travel a lot for work - still not good enough for my mom.

I've read quite a few c-d threads on the topic of moms flipping out when daughters move since I've been dealing with these mom issues - it is comforting to know that we're not alone.

There is no reason why a woman this age can't drive a car. It's unfair of her to expect others to be her taxi driver. It's extremely old fashioned for a woman to not drive a car. There were still a few women in my own mother's generation who didn't drive, but they were few and far between. Tell her to either get a driver's license and start taking Ubers.

She's figured out how to con you into driving her all around all these years, I'll bet she'll figure out how to con or pay someone else into it.

Good luck on the move and the new adventures ahead.
