Update:

I had a meeting to go to at 6 and someone mentioned that it's TACO TUESDAY at Dairy Queen - oops! Gotta swing by there and wait in the long line of cars after the meeting - LOL.

While I was sitting in my car in line, I got a message - it said "We are sitting in the car in front of you and my son just told me you ordered three tacos!" (This was from another mom in the neighborhood, not the mom next door just for the record.)

The son is one of the boys I was talking to earlier over my fence. He's also one of the kids who brought over baked goods when we first moved in, which I thought was sweet. And he's one who was going on and on about Halloween.

Now I'm starting to feel downright affectionate toward these guys! Still not feeling the dog though.

Now THAT is not a bad place to be.

Yeah, I'm feeling better about the whole thing.

It really helps to have sweet kids respond, rather than brats. Now, hopefully they will quit playing in my driveway with scooters and bikes and skateboards and it will all be good. They did stop yesterday after I said something to them about it. Maybe it will hold!

I've been absolutely inundated with visits, and invitations and lunch dates and all that good stuff by various people in the neighborhood, which is surprising in a very nice way. Also, we got our utility bills and they are all a LOT lower than in our previous house so that's great too.

School's out so we'll see how today goes - it's still nice weather outside here and God knows those boys all need to burn off a lot of steam. Which is fine as long as they don't climb my fence or skate down my driveway to do it.

KA, I think your hat/wig on Halloween while handing out candy showed you were a good sport, which kids that age appreciate. Plus you had decorated your porch area for a welcoming touch and even had music, I think you said.

After a conversation with the boys at your fence, I think you have made a good impression. Now that you know them a little, you can call out a friendly but firm reminder to stay off your driveway and lawn if necessary, hopefully avoiding hard feelings.

Seems like you have handled the situation well, which is not surprising having the instincts of a mother of four!

Thank you - I do try!

Of course, it helps when the kids are sweet natured and polite.

No little munchkins in my yard or playing in my driveway today, I am happy to report.

Wow, the kids have stayed totally off my driveway and out of my yard other than the normal ball chasing or whatever. This is GREAT.

Also, nearly every single day, several little neighborhood kids come to my door and just give me little presents! Cookies, Halloween candy, flowers they picked out of the yard, little drawings. Honestly, that is the sweetest thing. Very touching.

I told the last little group, "My husband won't believe all this stuff!" and they said "We've never seen your husband!" I said, "Well, he's coming home Tuesday." They said, "Oh can we come meet him?" and I said, "Of course - he loves kids and get this - he's funny too. I think you'll like him."

One little girl told me she wants one of the little boys in the "next door group" to be her boyfriend.

I'm very pleased with the whole thing!

Thank you!

Hell, for all I know these kids all feel sorry for "the old lady on the hill." OK by me! (I'm not that old, but I'm sure they think I am ancient.)
