Can someone please tell me what month schools start and finish? I was reading through some other posts and noticed a mention of no summer recess in one district. Is this common? If so, what areas??

I guess it would depend on what part of the state you are checking. Where we are (Randolph County), school starts the last week of August, ends the first week of June.

Raleigh area and maybe more eastward. Trying to decide on area to move to.
Possible job in Raleigh. I have on child going into 9th grade and another into 8th. I can't see sending them to school year round. Also, need good school district for them. I plan on coming in June to start looking but need a place
to start. Liked Greenville but people keep saying "college town". Does that mean loud, excessive partying, college students? I guess I'm a little slow

Some schools around Wake County are 'year around'...meaning their vacation is spread out though out the year, rather then in one large mind numbing batch in summer. Many parents prefer the scheudule.

However, for the schools on a tradional calender, next year starts 27 August, 2007 and ends 10 June, 2008.

I think most schools start in late August and end in early June. The exact dates vary/ Year-Round schools still have a summer break, it's just a few weeks shorter.

I believe NC law requires public schools to open no sooner than August 25th and close no later than June 10th for those local systems under a traditional calender.

Pretty much.....a district can apply for an exception. Some get it, some don't.

Greenville is a college town for sure but there is plenty of room to live around Greenville without feeling like you're living next door to college kids It's not a bad place to live.
