After much planning & researching, Hickory is exactly what we thought it would be, wonderful!
But, after looking at our housing market (up to $95,000) it was VERY discouraging!. The pictures on the websites are very deceiving. One house that was totally renovated still needed $30,000 done to the outside. Another that was a completely redone dollhouse, had cars jacked on blocks in the drive next store & so much stuff on the other neighbors porch I don't know how people got in & out of it. A third that had been renovated with new windows & floors had the walls & ceiling caving in toward the center of the house! That gem was $90,000 & looked great from the outside.
I'm not going to say you can't find a CLEAN, well kept home in a good neighborhood because we found 1, but it was 925 sq ft. You will really need time to search out the jewels if you below $100,000. None of this takes into account manufactored homes because you can get more for your money with those but we wanted a stick built. We had a wonderful realtor who tried so hard that we felt bad for her. She was just GREAT! and would love to pass her info on in a private message/email if you want.
So, the end of the story is we went to our 2nd choice which was Anderson, SC and found a WONDERFUL home for us, in a wonderful neighborhood, our price range & is just funky enough to suit us (it is a house that was converted from a horse barn years ago) sits at the back of a half acre lot so it feels like country, and has all the amenities that we were looking for in Hickory (theatre, golf, shopping, lakes etc).
Best wishes to all who head to Hickory, it's a wonderful town & if you don't go to their live theatre you will be missing a great opportunity!!!!!

Im glad you liked Hickory. It is a very nice small city. Im sorry that you werent able to find the house you wanted though. What part of Hickory or neighborhood were you looking at?
I too am happy that you like Hickory. You are right though. Finding a home that is decent in price and size is not the easiest thing to do at present. That includes Hickory as well as surround counties. I am happy that you found a new home in Anderson and hope you love it there. Just think. You are not too far away from Hickory to visit for the live theatre.
Hi From Hickory,
Thank You For All The Nice Thing's You Said About Our City. Sure Wish You Could Have Found A Home Here. Wanted To Send Best Wishes To You,
