My company is relocating me to North Carolina. If you drew a circle around Winston-Salem and Greensboro going north to border and south to Concord you would have my new territory. My problem is where do I move my family? That is why I am turning to you nice folks for help. I am looking for an area that has transplants like myself. Would like a semi-populated area with great schools, lakes, and a downtown area like Main Street. Low crime rate would be nice. I am going to come down in september and rent month to month(hopefully) and bring them down in November. Any ideas on a location or locations to check out? Am I asking for to much? PLZ HELP!!!!
Is there an area you would be in more than another? If not seems you would want to be in the middle of that circle--around Statesville, Lexington or Salisbury. Of the three we really like Salisbury. Statesville is nice, but very busy and quite urban. Though Statesville is home to the NC Balloon Festival every October. Lexington is wonderful as well. There is a huge BBQ held every year.
More details would help point a direction--do you like city life, want a big lot?
Searching on the high schools turns up a few 4 out of 5, like Clemmons. The only 5 rated high schools are specialized "early college" ones in the larger cities.
The odds of hitting it right on the first go are pretty slim.
I'd suggest that you RENT close to Winston-Salem with all the resources that larger city has and plan to remain there for the year or more it'll take to learn your territory well enough and for you (AND your family) to make an informed decision on your own... of whether to remain there, to choose one of the small towns or something else altogether.
