Logistically and or financially would this be a mess? I have been driving an occasional shared car here in NoVa and will need a car full time for work in NC. So I question whether or not it would be a mess to purchase here before coming down next week. Thank you so kindly for any help.
Well if you buy in VA, North Carolina will still hit you with a hefty road use tax when you register in NC. I think it's better to wait and buy in NC. Search the forums on the "road use tax", and you will find it is not deductible on you Federal taxes, either.

Look at CarMax, as you could pick out a car in Virgina, and they can have it transported to your North Carolina location. I think they also handle the registration. There are fees for this of course.

This is great advice and a lot of "chain" dealers will do this. So for example if you picked out a car at a Honda dealer, they could ship it to the Honda location in NC.
I agree on doing the whole transaction in your destination state. You'll be paying more than enough to NC without bringing VA into the mix.
Ok, cool. I have stopped looking here in VA and will shop Charlotte to Salisbury roughly. Family member there has connections to two used car dealers but I am familiarizing myself with those who rate well online. Thanks all.
