Try the vegan chocolate cake at Weaver Street Market in Carrboro. Great farmer's market, too — "nationally known, locally grown."

I tried going to that website once, but all it did was send me to a dating website. Plus, I'm pretty sure it was exclusively for women. I don't know if I mis-typed the web address...

Yes, definitely Carrboro would fit the bill or nearby Chapel Hill. One of the local BBQ food trucks offers tofu BBQ. When I first saw it I had to laugh - "only in Chapel Hill."

Any suggestions?
Most any town is "vegan friendly" because no one really cares what you eat, when you eat it or where you eat it. If you truly don't want to be treated any differently then quit advertising that you do things that are different, then complain because you have all the unwanted attention that you turned on the neon flashing light for.

Go and live your live, do what you do, eat what you want, unless you shove it in people's face that you are vegan I doubt anyone will even notice.

No, it would be difficult for a vegan to select a city like Smithfield or Benson to settle, because the vegan options there would be nearly nonexistent. It is nice to go to a restaurant and just be able to order something off the menu, without asking myriad questions or making substitutions. Also, the local Food Lion or Wal-Mart would not offer great selections for those who are herbivorous. Therefore, the OP's concerns are indeed valid.

You could not have described Carrboro any better. Please know that Chapel Hill and Carrboro are in many ways one town only separated by railroad tracks and most folks don't know where one ends and the other begins. Chapel Hill - Carrboro has the best schools in the state, lots of diversity and only 2 hours from the beach or mountains. Also know because of the school system, house prices are fairly expensive.
