Not so much. But in both DFW and Houston Obama won the majority of votes. Exurbia and rural areas ...not so much.

What's funny is as much as people think the entire west coast is liberal ("left coast") it's kind of the same way. E.g. Portland the city is liberal, suburbs are mixed, rural Oregon and Wash state nearby are conservative.

Conservatives in Washington represent a small populace. The Puget Sound region is much more populated than the rural conservative areas of Washington state which is primarily eastern Washington. Also, conservative in Washington is nothing like conservative in the south.

Conservatives are similar across the country. In some ways, the western conservatives are even more conservative. Just look at all those crazy ranchers and their conspiracy theories. What about the large number of rural or small town mormons prevalent in the NW as well? The differences in their influence of states is dependent on how many conservatives there are in the state.
