On August 21, 1983, Fayetteville reported a high of 110.

So far this year...
Fayetteville made it to 98
Raleigh made it to 96
Greensboro made it to 93

Out of 233 days it has rained 128 of those days. We are 10 inches above normal for the year. If it didn't rain for the next two months, we still be above normal.

Ever? Really? I think in recent recorded history would be a lot more accurate.

I'm surprised 110 was the highest recorded. Seems like it coulda been hotter. I grew up in Fayetteville.

This is one summer I can't really complain about the heat. It makes up for the recent years when we skipped spring and went straight to summer temp wise.

Dunno NWS doesnt have that information. It does have for this date Raleigh reaches its all time record high temperature of 105 degrees on August 21, 2007 (also reached on July 23, 1952 and August 18, 1988).

I moved here Laborday 2007. Wasn't it over 100 for a record #of consecutive days then? I remember thinking that I couldn't possibly over tip the movers.

Growing up in Fayetteville and the Sandhills region (Fayetteville is on the edge of the Sandhills, btw, but not really in the Sandhills) I remember going to sleep-away summer camp down near Laurinburg the week there were multiple days over 100. It was 107 at camp w/ no A/C. I was a kid, though, so I thought it was fun. I remember many days like that growing up, so I'm surprised that the highest ever recorded was 110. I would have thought that since the 1800s or whenever temps first started being recorded there would have been days that it went a notch or two higher.

The last day of a period of four consecutive days at or above 100 degrees ended at Raleigh and Asheboro (August 20-23, 1983).
