Hello,
I am interested in moving to NC from NYC, I am a disabled Veteran so I don't want to be very far from the VA hospital. Not more than 20 mile drive from a VA hospital or clinic. I work at Social Security so I don't want to be too far away from work as well.
I was advised to look into Raleigh, Durham or Salisbury, that Charlotte is too far down the coast and since I do not like driving, the first three would be better options. I do attend Church weekly so that is important as well. My plan is too buy a townhouse next year, in the meantime find a area that is nice and cheaper what I am paying for a one bedroom in NYC which is $1600 a month.
Which area do you feel is an ideal location? I am NOT interested in a bad area or high crime area, hence move from NYC. I do plan on making a trip to NC, but I want to narrow it down. I put on transfer any city in NC. Which was NOT a good planning on my part.
Salisbury good choice, check out the downtown area as more older building being converted to apts. and condo's. The Corbin Hills area has a nice townhome community you might want to look at. SS has moved to larger office and the VA hospital is expanding. It is centrally located between Charlotte and Winston-Salem.
Thank you, when you say downtown where are you referring to exactly? I plan on flying down and renting a car and driving around. I hate driving and was told the other two locations are about 9-10 hour drive from NYC. They are right outside VA, When stationed in Norfolk, VA that is the longest drive I have ever taken.
Will look up both places, I definitely know there is a SSA office in Salisbury.
Downtown refers to the Innis Street and (north or south) Main Street intersection. Look into using Frontier Airlines from Trenton-Mercer airport in NJ to Greensboro. Drive from central NJ to Salisbury, about 11 hours including stops for gas, eating and rest rooms.
Thank you! That is certainly a doable drive! Will tomorrow put down Salisbury. Will have to check on airlines that fly down to Greensboro from JFK or LGA since I live in NYC. Thanks for the info! After my trip to Australia at the end of the month, will take a flight down to Salisbury the following weekend to check out Salisbury?
Once again Thamk You!
