Husband is disabled Vet, 100% service-connected disability.

What does North Carolina offer in terms of tax relief for a disabled Vet? I've tried researching it but I just don't understand the lingo.

Can someone break it down for me?

We want to buy a house. We already know if we go VA there will be no down. But what about property tax issues? Would a disabled Vet be exempt (NY does this and quite a few other states)?

What about income tax breaks? He has the VA, SSDI and I have SSDI and my pension. We're comfortable and would like to stay that way.

If there's someone out there with expertise in one or both of these areas, please respond.

Thanks in advance.

From what I have learned from following this forum and reading the "Bailey Act", your federal pension would not be subject to NC state income tax. It doesn't matter if it is the disability portion or the regular retirement portion. Can someone correct me if I am wrong?

You are correct and I say so from personal experience. Diusabled vets shouldn't have to pay a dime for any kind of tax!
