Newton was not quick enough with the ball. The best quarterbacks are quick to read the scene, make an intelligent decision with the ball, and either throw the ball to the receiver or run with it, and constantly make first downs.
The officiating and bogus penalties called against the Panthers were major negatives in the game.
I agree that the officiating certainly went against the Panthers. However, the deciding factor was that the Broncos defense had Cam's number... no question.

I don't watch all that much football but even I could see the Panthers were not able to protect their QB from the Bronco defense. Every time I looked up from the nachos and wings, Newton was getting sacked again. Yikes!
I think that if the team's star QB runs away from a live ball on the ground, because he is afraid to get hit, then the team deserves to lose. I thought the Panthers were all but a lock to win, but obviously I had no clue as to how sensitive Cam is to rough play and sports reporters.
Said it in another thread will say it here, they had a hell of a season. Completely unexpected dominance in many a game. I know I wasn't thinking 15-1 and/or NFC Champs back in August.
