He's probably not famous, but Dr Steven Greer was born and raised in Charlotte. KC and Jojo were from the Charlotte area as well. Sunshine Anderson is from Charlotte (attended Olympic High). US transportation secretary Anthony Fox is from Charlotte. Chris Daughtry is from a small town near Greensboro. Billy and Franklin Graham are from Charlotte (well Billy is, not sure about Franklin). Singer Anthony Halmilton is from Charlotte. Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst spent some years growing up in Gastonia, though I believe he's a Jacksonville Florida native. Fantasia is from High Point. Rick Flair is from Charlotte. That's all I've got off the top of my head.
Though they were born in NY, David and Amy Sedaris grew up in Raleigh when IBM moved them there in the 60s.
