North Carolina has voted for the Republican candidate in presidential elections except 2008. I see it as a Republican state that is dominated by the Democratic Party in statewide offices.
I think NC definitely still fits "Purple State" status. The margin of victory for Trump was roughly 175,000 votes. Compare that to other traditional "Red" states, and you'll see that margin a lot larger for Trump.
A certain bill from earlier this year is likely why McCrory won't get re-elected.
Likely true. As is the axiom, "Repeat a lie a thousand times -- in the mainstream media -- and it becomes the truth for those who are brain fed by the mainstream media."
Be reallll interesting to see a statewide referendum question on the particulars of that bill, maybe on the next ballot?
But, the anti's would fight that proposal to the mat to ever prevent that from happening . . .
On the other hand, Governor, AG, Auditor and NC Supreme Court all likely D. Most races near coin flip either way. Seems like the definition of a purple state to me. And honestly, I'm not sure you can really equate Trump with Republican right now in the classic sense. Maybe what the party will become, but not the past.
HB2 still exists and good luck in repealing it. Get over it, this has always been the state you live in.
