I've heard NC has a grocery tax? Can someone explain which foods are taxed? I've lived in TX and WI which do not tax groceries.

Most grocery store sales are taxed at 2%. Prepared foods (rotisserie chicken, for example) is taxed at the full sales tax per the locality.

I also think that snacks, sodas, pet food, and cleaning products are taxed at 7%, or whatever the maximum rate is for the locality.
