My wife and I are considering retiring to North Carolina in about 4 years---My wife is a medical coder and will probably work for some time after my retirement---We are looking for a place that is relatively safe where we can have a mini-farm on about five acres of property---We have been searching for some time and have started to look at Moore County NC as a possibility---Access to good medical care and a safe area are two of our major concerns---Any input as to whether Moore County might be a viable option would be appreciated.

Frankly, I think it is a great option for you. The Moore County hospital is excellant, and I think there would be job opportunities for your wife. It should be very safe out in the country.

There are "equestrian estates" where there are five acre parcels. There are also plenty of larger parcels around West End or Cameron. Just don't expect to find those parcels within Pinehurst or Southern Pines where the land is a lot more expensive.

You'll have a lot of company as a retiree because Moore county is known as a place where people move to in retirement.

I would also recommend West End, as well as Jackson Springs and Carthage if you're looking for some room to spread out.

The First Health complex in Pinehurst is very highly rated.
