Yeah, I was going to say Wilkesboro might be in that price range. Puts you about 45 minutes from Boone for weekend getaways, and 45 minutes from Winston-Salem for good hospitals.

Long-term, Wilkesboro/N. Wilkesboro would be worth consideration. However, be aware, short-term, that there is an outbreak of Covid-19 in Wilkes County due to a Tyson chicken processing plant with 2,000 employees.
