First off I am from Jersey. My company is moving to Rocky Mount (nash county) within the year. We went down to see the building etc. and stayed for about a week. My family and I wanted to be more out in the country and everyone was saying Red Oak, which was in the country and not far from the new plant. In a couple years I am going to need a grade school for my son, a middle school and high school for my daughters now. I am willing to drive 1/2 hour - 45 mins. to work. Can anyone recommend an area with good schools OR just good schools in an area about that time away from Rocky mount?? My children come first and want them to be comfortable, safe and educated. Please include public, catholic or private schools. Thanks in advance!

Dear Tom, I am a Texas transplant-moved to Rocky Mount 10 yrs. ago with a 12 and 15 year old. I am also in the real estate business and am familiar with Rocky Mount and surrounding areas and the schools. Many younger families like yours find the Red Oak and Nashville areas very attractive. There are also several private schools here in Rocky Mount. My children attended and graduated from Faith Christian School which is non-denominational. Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic school and Rocky Mount Academy are also very good private schools in town as well. Moderator cut: solicitation

Tom-I live about 40 min south of Rocky Mnt-not that familiar with the schools there but I can tell you that I am greatly disappointed with my son's middle school here. Coming from New Jersey I would expect that the schools were better. Many people in my area send there kids to private schools-unfortunately as a single mom that is not an affordable option for me. We moved here from South fl which-lol-had a very Northern feel. I work with someone who lives in Rocky Mnt-although his kids are in college and i believe they went to fl schools-i'll ask him though. My son and I will definetly be leaving this area-feels like we took a step backwards moving here-education is just not a priority in this small town. Thought a small town would be better for my son, but not at the expensive of his education. In fl most of his friends came form well-to do families and these kids had a feeling of entitlement. Not unusual to see a kid getting jet skis as a reward for a good report card-lol. But I guess i have to go back to living in an expensive are if I want quality public schools. Good luck to you. It's quite an adjustment-let me know if you here of any good public schools in Rocky mnt-although I am seriously considering go back to fl or possibly Virginia (family there).
