Hi Elizabeth,
Native Rhode Islander here...moved to Cary, a suburb of Raleigh a year and a half ago. I'm an empty nester, married in my 50's...different situation than yourself. We love it here. Great climate, lots to do, friendly people. We're a 2 hr drive to the beach...straight shot on I-40.

Parts of old Raleigh remind of the East Side...around Blackstone Blvd. What are you looking for? City, small town?

Can't help you with the job situation. I'd suggest securing a job, then decide where to move. If you have any specific questions on the Raleigh/Durham area, feel free to DM me.
Lisa

NC is just as hot as SC. Living on the coast will give you a breeze but it will be a humid one no matter whether it is VA, NC, SC, GA or FL.
