What region in North Carolina do you like the most: mountains, piedmont, or the coast? Why do you prefer this area over the others?

My personal favorite is the coast, because I love the ocean and bays.

Default Love the Carolina Coast

I love the coastal areas like Holly Ridge/Topsail Beach because we enjoy the Ocean and the laid back atmosphere. It is also appealing because it is close to a thriving city like Wilmington.

I'm a hardcore motorcyclist, and for us NOTHING beats those beautiful North Carolina hills! I average riding about 15,000 miles per year (Ct. resident) and the wife & I always pack the bike for a 2 week to month long adventure and just ride someplace. I've been coast to coast on my motorcycles. The western Carolina mountain areas offer road conditions that are legendary, perhaps the most well maintained roads I have encountered via motorcycle. Not to mention the twisty curves, magnificent scenery and seemingly endless forest. Oh jeesh, cannot forget those waterfalls!!! Awesome. Hands down, the mountain region.

I have to preface this by saying that I've spent almost all my time in North Carolina west of Hickory and never have been to the coast.

But my favorite parts of western North Carolina are in Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties -- Waynesville, Sylva, Dillsboro, Franklin, Bryson City and the Nantahala Gorge. The mountains, streams and forests are wonderful, as are the towns.

From Charlotte westward. Charlotte, because there's a lot to do. The foothills because of the nice little towns (Mt. Airy, Hickory, Rutherfordton). The mountains because of the awesome beauty, especially along the Blue Ridge Pkwy. But I also love the outer banks. Isn't this state wonderful!!!???
