Williston Herald March 15...."Williston library all booked up"
"Before Walmart kicked out its parking-lot campers, it was the first stop in Williston for many newcomers. Increasingly, however, Williston Community Library is the newcomers’ hub. The library is booming, and librarians are working hard to keep up."

Libraries all over the state are dealing with job seekers dealing with the reality of online-online job applications. ND Job Service isn't in that many cities, and is swamped. The local public library is filling in the gaps.
Good to hear about the extra story hours for the new kids.

(can you guess what I do for a living?)

I've been to the Williston library many times to use their high speed internet computers before I got high speed internet installed at home. There were times when I had to wait a while for someone to leave to get an open computer. I still go there if I have to fax something.

I have long been an advocate for Library's . Walking to the Library used to be our family outing every Saturday after we did our chores, when I was a child. That and on the way home a trip to the local Rexall for a nickle soda, funny book or candy bar. (Gads I'm old)
Hard to see the news recently that Library's, like small towns and small town stores may be going by the wayside. I am glad the Library is such a valuable resource to the folks in Williston. I have noticed in the last couple years a great increase in library usage as folks look for inexpensive entertainment during our recession. Thank your Librarians.

Although libraries in many states are struggling financially, in North Dakota communities are working together to establish or enlarge libraries. Elgin and Mcville have conducted petition drives to establish library service. Bowman regional expanded service to other communities.
Several small towns have taken the attitude that if they're going to survive they have to improve the quality of life, and libraries help to do that.

The first thing my husband did when he started working up there was get a PO Box (in Berthold so they have a few available. But he got about a half dozen "roommates" once it got around that he had one. lol)
The second thing he did was get a library card. He sent me a pic of the Minot library. Four floors! And the children's floor is bigger than our entire library here at home! My kids were jealous. He said they have to pay to use the internet/computers though. Fortunately he just uses the library for the traditional reason; getting books.

I have always thought it would be fun to do the Bookmobile. Wonder if they will start that back up.
I truly think the folks that survive a relocation to N.D., are the type folks that embrace the slow, quiet family type entertainment. Sitting outside in the dark, visiting. Sunday drives, picnics, Church suppers, building some sense of community. Gotta appreciate the little things to appreciate the big ones.

Start back up?
There are places (rural places, that is) that don't have Bookmobiles??
