Talking with several oil workers, Realtors, and retailers, there has been a slow down in the oil field. The housing inventory has increased and so has the apartments availability. I have heard some companies have quit hiring until after the election. Anyone moving to Minot should ensure themselves of a job before hand.

I know where you coming from. I've been doing alot of research. Im uncle have been working in ND for the last few years on the rigs. He says that companys are still hiring. I have a list of about 20 different companys with there contact information. I don't have expierence in the oil field. So, I call these companies ask if they are hiring first and they say NO. Then I ask if they hire and entry level position and they say last couple times they have been hiring they are hiring people with at least one year under there belt. SO I'm thinking it has to be the election. I thought this would be a great time to get into rig work because of the ****ty weather and turn over. I look up each companies web page, click on the career option and there will be may one or two opening of manager of expierenced postions. The big question is WHERE ARE ALL THESE HYPED UP OIL RIG POSITIONS THAT THE HYPE IS ALL ABOUT! The way North dakota oil jobs are talked about if seem you would go to a company and they woule be hiring ten plus positions. I don't get it!

If you read the threads it is mentioned several times. Things leveled out back on the 1st of this year due to several things. Number one, oil prices have dropped to under $100 a barrel and fracking is expensive and not very cost effective to drill for it. As a result, they didn't actually go into a hiring freeze, but they did get more selective on who they hire and what kind of experience you have to have. A year ago, they took anybody, but after the first of the year, they started asking for experience.

That is why housing is starting to level off also. They've exentially stopped hiring, but they are still building housing, so now more people are moving into homes and it's kind of taking the strain off the housing market.

Have you been applying in person? Because people have discovered that online apps are often ignored, whereas someone walking into a shop office is much more likely to get an interview.
