In Bottineau on Sunday, the cost of a gallon of 2% was $4.77, I about layed an egg. Usually my husband picks it up and I don't bother to ask the price. I know last year at this time I was picking it up at a little corner stop shop on Hwy 83 north of Minot and it was $3.99. Oddly enough, butter which I watch the price of, was $2.50 a pound at Wal-mart, which sometimes has been as high as close to $4.00 a pound. Why is milk so high right now and butter is low?
How much do the prices vary across the state? Are groceries cheaper the further away you are from the oil patch? Is milk in Fargo cheaper than it is in Minot?

I am in Grand Forks, northeast corner of North Dakota, on hwy 2, about 5 hrs from Williston. I just bought milk on the way home today, 3.46 for gal of 2% milk. 2 ltr coke 1.67 this was at one of our local chains, Hugo's mkts.
Haha! I drink raw milk, eat pastured eggs and raw butter, and those prices are chump change compared to what I pay.
For example, raw milk is....drum roll....$13 a gallon! Less if I buy it from a
co-op type situation. Usually around $7.
Looks like I am getting my butt kicked all around except for eggs, I raise my own chickens (free range in decent weather) so I have eggs coming out my ears.
We were fortunate enough to have a neighbor that had a milk cow and for awhile we got all the raw milk and cream we could use - that cream is beyond belief. I never did try making any of it into butter - that would have been a good use for that cream.
