Red Sox?
Why?

So people go Steelers-Yanks or Steelers-Phils or Steelers-Red Sox

Why, NEPA people have no respect.
Total bandwagoners who selectively choose when to root in state.

What would the hockey ranking be?
Lot of Rangers/Devils fans?

What about NBA?

The Giants and Jets are only on as the local game here when the Eagles and Steelers are not on at the same time.

But like someone else said, why should the team someone roots for be dictated by geography alone? Maybe someone likes a certain player and follows a far-away team because of that. I was an Eagles fan, but gave up on them after 25+ years over Mike Vick. I may just be an Arizona Cardinals fan this year if Kevin Kolb is traded there because I would like to see him succeed.

I might also just watch more college football this year...I'm not fanatical about any particular college team, but I'll watch Penn State since I'm an alumnus, and I grew up watching Notre Dame with my dad so I still follow them.
Giants are more local.
Many NY transplants, NY metro is closer, and when it's equidistant, NY wins because it being the largest metro region, it carries the higher gravational sphere of influence.

Well, I'm sure part of it is bandwagon Red Sox fans, BUT, there always was some following for the Red Sox here, since Scranton used to be the home of a Red Sox farm team, the Scranton Red Sox, through the 1950s, a lot of old timers around here are Sox fans from back in those days, and rooting for a team usually gets passed down to their kids.

Did you start this thread with the intent of bashing the rooting interests of NEPA residents? Nothing better to do? You have to realize that NEPA sits in between a bunch of metro areas....close to Philly, NYC, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, DC, and Boston isn't all that far away.

So you might want to do your homework before you spout off about things you know nothing about.

Once again, same distance to Philly, and Philly is an easier drive from here, less traffic down the NE Extension than there is on I-80 in NJ. And, like I said, the Eagles are on TV here every week, the Giants are not, which will lead to more Eagles fans.

I'd say its 1. Pens 2. Flyers 3. Rangers after that there's probably a smattering of Devils/Islanders fans around. The Flyers (CSN), Pens (FSN Pitt), and Devils (YES) are the only teams available regularly on TV here.

The NBA doesn't seem huge here, but I'd say its probably an even mix of Sixers, Knicks, and Celtics, along with some bandwagon Lakers fans. Never met a Nets fan.

I'm from Scranton, so I'm commenting on what I know from the Scranton/WB area. The Poconos have more NY transplants, so that area probably is heavier on NY fans than Philly/Pitt fans.

I know lots of people who root for teams from different cities...I know Phillies/Giants fans, Yankees/Eagles fans, Eagles/Mets, Steelers/Yankees etc etc etc. That happens a lot with being equidistant to NY and Philly.

Agree on hockey listing. But if you include students at "Da U", it might be Flyers, Pens, Rangers, with a lot more Devil fans in there. No one likes the Isles. LOL!

Is there some sort of law that I'm missing, where you must like all the professional sports teams from one city?

I've know Red Sox fans in NEPA that liked the Sox when Ted Williams played on the team. I also know people who loved the Red Sox during the 70's, 80's, and 90's, long before they won their latest World Series rings. I wouldn't call them bandwagoners, since they were rooting for the team when they never won anything.

You really don't like people from NEPA loving the Steelers do ya!!

I don't know if you know this, but there's people who like the Steelers from the West Coast to the East Coast, from Canada to Mexico and who live in many large cities with other NFL teams. And I would guess that most of these fans were not born and raised in Pittsburgh or Western PA, heck many probably have never even been to the Keystone State, but that doesn't stop them from liking the Black and Gold!

With your logic, the distance from Scranton to New Brunswick, NJ is ~110 miles and the distance from Scranton to State College, PA is ~150 miles, so are you telling me the people from NEPA should root for the State University of New Jersey over the Pennsylvania State University? That's never going to happen!

They are based out of our nation's capitol. I can get behind that.
