I am looking to make the switch from my basic Sprint phone to a smartphone w data. I am thinking about trying a prepaid plan. Does anybody have experience with these in the area? I will primarily be using in the Wilkes-Barre and surrounding towns. I have already hit a couple of no signal spots downtown and was wondering what other carriers are like for voice and DATA? Is ATT good here or do I have to look for a Verizon?

Thanks for any info

Verizon would be your best bet for coverage here in NEPA...Sprint is having financial troubles and may get bought if they don't get their act together and their signal coverage is spotty...ATT is out here but the coverage is spotty also...prepaid plans use the networks of whatever provider is in the area and that can be hit or miss also...

I had Verizon when we lived in Pike County, and it was good for me. I would see my neighbors standing in the street with their cell phones, and I would laugh. Now, there were a couple of rooms in my house that were drop zones. Also, there would be issues if it was cloudy, but I get that everywhere - NYC, MS, MI, TN, etc. Verizon was good for me. I heard a lot of complaints about AT&T. Good luck!

Try using this site: Cell Phone Coverage Maps - AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile to report dead cell zones in your area...I did when I first moved to Saylorsburg because at the top of the mountain where I live the signal was totally dead...not even 1 bar...I kept reporting it on that site and to Verizon with the GPS coordinates and within a year we had coverage and I don't lose calls...the key is to keep reporting it to them...Verizon's website is tricky to find where to report dead or scarce coverage but it's there...took me a long time to find it...

our kids had no trouble with their verizon data/cell plans when they came to us in nepa but anyone with straight cell service like us must use different signal paths because we were dead in the water most times.

As long as you're not out in the sticks, Sprint will be fine, plus they have unlimited data plans. You'll get good data coverage in and around W-B.
