Can't wait for that to happen....The infux is not always a welcome site nor is it always the most desirable people either. Watch what you wish for us SWB, you currently do not have to deal with Scranton issues at their core in the neighborhoods. Those that often move looking for the better life are not always the creme of the crop so to say. "Send lawyers guns &money"

I agree with Dan here. You can only hope that people from the upper middle class would want to come here. People who can add substancially to the tax base. Scranton doesn't really need lower income people from NY and NJ to come here and really contribute nothing and this coming from someone who lived in the NY area. We can't support it and usually, not always, these people aren't the best that you would want living next to you.

Yes, Alliance contributes to the town. I visit a landfill frequently here in NC (rather than pay for private trash collection) and I assure you, the landfill in Taylor is relatively odorless and NOTHING like the smell of the culm dump (rotten eggs) after a good rain. Funny, no one complained about that, as I recall....

If more New Yorkers like yourself, Chris Balton, etc. move into the city, then we'll be just fine. It's a huge gamble, but this is a trend that will be occurring over the next 10-20 years, whether we like it or not. The Hamlin/Moscow/Mt. Cobb area is just starting to notice the influx now, and that area is, at best, 20 minutes from the city. I can't believe all of the newer subdivisions that are springing up out there or are on the drawing board (Mack Estates, Windsor Hill, Stonefield Estates, Beechwood Hill, etc.) As Paul Revere would say "The New Yorkers are coming; the New Yorkers are coming!!!"

The NY'ers have been in Hamlin for the past 20 years! Why do you think the Hideout became so popular and is called little NY? As far as Windsor Hill, etc., I certainly don't see that as a good thing. The more trees that are cut down to build more stores and houses, the more they complain that there's not enough.

The neighbors near Alliance have not said that it is odorless. The people that live near there (their homes were there before the landfill moved in) say that they cannot even open their windows in the summer, and the stink and layer of dirt on everything is common. And the birds are a major nuisance as well. The garabge trucks from Jersey have seagulls that follow them here.

I don't understand all of these planned developments in rural areas. If I'm moving to the country, I don't want neighbors right on top of me....I want land, woods, peace and quiet, etc. If I'm going to have neighbors, I would just as well live in the city and have other conveniences close by.
