If you have any questions regarding the school district or the area in general, let me know. I have kids in elementary, middle and high school at Wallenpaupack.

Greentown,

Do the kids wear regular clothes to school or uniforms? Are there alot of snow days? I forgot to ask when I called the school.

Can you recommend any good pediatricians, dentists, orthodontists?

How about food shopping? Any good ones nearby?

I was thinking that most of my shopping will be done in Honesdale. We are planning on a trip up there soon to drive around and see what it near us.

Thanks again!

Wallenpaupack has a dress code, but no uniforms so far. As far as snow days, I think the school has six built into the school calendar. If we use them all and need more, they either take away one of the spring holidays or add a day or two in June. If we don't use them, they give us extra days off, usually Fridays in May. They do this so that the date for graduation does not change. My younger kids go to the South Elementary in Newfoundland, but my seventh grader goes to the Middle School and loves it. They always have extra activities for the kids, like dances, sports, book fairs, etc.

We use a pediatrician in Dickson City, the practice is called Pediatric Practices, near the Viewmont Mall and are very happy with them. They see sick kids on Saturday and Sunday mornings, which is a big plus as far as I am concerned. This might be too far for you to go, but there are several pediatricians in Honesdale and Hamlin. Orthodontic practice we use is Mariotti and Quinn in Honesdale. I have two kids going there now, and they actually enjoy going to their appointments (much more than I enjoy paying for it!). Our dentist is in Hamlin, right next to Hamlin School, sorry but I can't think of any of their names at the moment. You could probably find some much closer to the Lackawaxen/Honesdale area.

Honesdale has lots of shopping available. There are several grocery stores, Walmart, Home Depot, KMart, Pizza Hut, Arby's, McDonalds. There is a small movie theater and a nice downtown area. Hawley is nice too, there is an IGA, and lots of small shops, a large park, several restaurants. I'm not sure which you would be closer to, but once your kids get involved in school activities, you'll probably be passing through Hawley to pick them up at school when necessary.

We have lived in the WASD area for over twenty years, but lived in the Hamlin area prior to that. The school district is great and offers the kids many opportunities, even if they are not college-bound and would rather learn a trade. And to answer your last question, with four kids, no, I am never bored!

First off congratulations, what area are you moving to? as far as doctors or dentist, if you have medical coverage such as etna, ghi, ect. if you go to there site they could tell you what doctors are in that area, honesdale is a nice area. also find out where the nearest hospital is in your area and go by it to see how long it takes to get there

I think Sanderson and Biscotti are the other dentists in that group.

Default Thanks so much!

Thanks greentown and poconosmama for your information - we too are looking for a doctor and dentist near to us.

Poconosmama...could you either let me know the name of your pediatrician, either here or through a PM?

DH is due for a dental exam...with the dentists listed, how long of a wait should we anticipate until he can get an appt.?

Cathy
P.S. Also looking for a barber and hairstylist - any suggestions?

cathyde......I went to the dentist; Dr. Sanderson for over 12 years. I was always happy there, but he wasnt a participant in my dental plan, so I switched to Scrimalli and Ratchford right in Hamlin. I LOVE them!! They are all so efficient, friendly, and you can get an appointment with the hygienist much quicker than with Dr. Sanderson, whcih usually takes at least 6 months. As far as Doctors in the area....I'm still stumped! I travel to Lords Valley right now to my Doctor! I would also love a nearby Dr. Recommendation!
Hairdressers...if you want the Hamlin area...I like Veronica in Cheryl's Hair Cutz, right near Hamlin Elementary school and I also like Sara at Tangles on Rt. 590, about a mile past CVS going towards The Hideout. Barbers...there is one in Lake Ariel, right by Kays...a real barber. I don't think they take appointments, you just wait.
I am out of the pediatric phase...went to Pediatric Practices of NEPA, right near Twin Rocks for many years and was happy, but the 2 pediatric offices right in Dickson City are probably your best bet. The Saturday and Sunday hours can't be beat. They are both on Commerce Drive, right near Lowes, not far apart from each other. To be honesy...only downfall about a big office like that...you never see the same Dr twice. They really don't get to know 'your' child, OK if he/she is healthy, but not good if their is something you want them to keep track of.
