I recently sold my home in PA and am moving into North Wilmington for just under a year, then will be back to PA. Beings it's so temporary I really don't want to register my car and go through getting a DE license. It just dawned on me that my PA license has my old address and I imagine that's where my registration renewal will go. So any suggestions on the best way to do this? All I can come up with is have my license updated with an address of a family memeber or something. Any other ideas?

This. I would consider telling your insurance agent the truth however, since insurance fraud is a jailable offense.

I lived for 7 years in New Jersey with a PA license and my car insured in PA. I just used my friends parents house as my residence for the license and the insurance. Never had a problem.

comitting insurance fraud and not getting caught does not mean it hasn't been a problem for others.

nothing is ever a problem until it is a problem.

it is fraud because the law says your vehicle must be insured in the state it is primarly parked.

why?

federal law mandates that when you carry the minimum coverage for the state you claim the car is parked in you must be elevated to the minimum coverage of any state you drive through that has higher requirements.

living in ny as an example and registeriing and insuring your car in PA where insurance is cheaper and the minimum requirements less is fraud. it is fraud because the state of PA and your insurer have to cough up the money for the extra coverage you need when driving in ny.

if you have an accident the state and insurer eat the difference in the claim if it is more than pa's minimum coverage.

the last thing they want to do is cough up money on your behalf when you lied about the car and its primary place of garaging.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I actually informed my insurance company that I'll be temporarily living in DE and it's not a problem. I was more concerned about receiving my registration and such.

lol. I think mathjak107 is a little bit confused as to what insurance fraud actually is...

heres a clue, it has nothing to do with car registrations in different states.
