I'm surprised no one mentioned Applewood Acres. Garden apartments actually in Clarks Summit. I lived there for a few years, nice place but one downside. It's right next to 81, so noise is an issue depending which building you're in.

When I fly out of Alaska, I need to stop by Basking Ridge New Jersey for a couple of days. Will it be better to fly to Scranton Airport or just drive/rent a cab/car to Clarks Summit? I checked on Google map that it is 1 h 54 min (119 miles) via I-78 E without traffic.

Hiring a cab will cost you a fortune. Better to rent a car at Newark Airport. Are you planning to fly back to Alaska or stay in the Scranton are?

I agree, just rent a car at EWR.

Okay, I will just rent a car then. My new employer has an office in NJ and I am required to report personally (for paperwork, onboarding etc.). I already reserved a car for my stay in NJ. So I guess I will return the car in their Scranton branch, right? This is my first time in renting a car too, so honestly I am really a noob on this. If I want my expenses covered, I should choose National or Enterprise in renting a car.
This will be a long term assignment, so no plans on going back to AK.

Check terms and options on car return online and even try calling someone, before you spend time in the wrong lines. Not everyone HAS a Scranton branch...and rates and terms will vary, especially on one way rentals. How will you get around NEPA? A car is pretty well a necessity especially at first. If you are in NEPA any length of time. you'll probably either become buddies with Uber folks or lease/buy a car.

Find out from the rental car company if you can return the car to a different location. This is the ideal arrangement. If you can't, then I suggest that you return the car to the Newark Airport. From there take a bus to Port Authority or the Airtrain (change at New Jersey Transit Newark Airport station) to Penn Station in NYC and then taxi to Port Authority where you can catch a Martz Trailways bus to Scranton. I believe that Enterprise car rental can meet you at the Martz station in Scranton.

If you are coming in with many suitcases and trunks, I would suggest arranging with a Scranton area limousine service (there are quite a few) to pick you up at the Newark Airport or wherever you drop your car. Rates are negotiable so call around.

You certainly have your work cut out for you in this move.
