I was wondering if anyone could give me any information regarding the area in or around Pocono Mountain Farm. We are considering relocating from Long Island, NY. Our interests would be in an area that we could commute into Manhatten without too much of a trek, it wouldn't be all the time. It is hard to look for homes when you don't know the area, any information could help?

Do you mean Pocono Farms? That would be a pretty good trek to Manhattan. Clarify your post and maybe somebody can help you out. Many of us suggest that people rent first and then buy; that commute isn't for everybody.

Good luck!

Can't tell you anything about the Pocono Farms community but there are lots of homes for sale at bargain prices in and around that area. This might indicate that there are problems there. See link.

Pocono Farms has a country club but not in the traditional sense of the word. They have a nicely maintained golf course surrounded by a lot of shuttered houses. There is rampant foreclosures in the area. There are some very nice blocks that are near the golf course but it is an area where one block might be lived in and the next block over might be 80% unoccupied. It is a true mixed bag. It is also not close to Manhattan. There is a typical mindset that driving 2+ hours one way is an easy commute, but look 6-12 months down the road into what you are sacrificing during this commute.

I actually never heard of it so I looked it up. They offer nice amenities (at a price, of course),including a summer camp for kids.

I do the "power commute" several times a week from Jim Thorpe into the Bronx. The morning is not so bad, for the most part an average ride in is about 2 hours 15 minutes. Coming home on 80 is wretched on a good day. Door to door is easily 3 plus hours. Bad weather or a holiday and it's even worse.
