go there now and take a look at mcdade. used to be incredibly beautiful while joe corcoran was in office. all of the work that marywood did to designate the site as an arboretum and almost nothing to show for it. the soccer field was built incorrectly, wrong dimensions. the beautiful gazebo with landscaping around it was nice, now completely overgrown with goldenrod and weeds choking the roses. the pond had a fountain that aerated the water, now stagnant because part for the fountain hasn't been purchased. let's see how they do after their updates are complete.

When I organized "Wicked Good Walks" in Boston, we met at a Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts in the center of town. It was a perfect spot to gather, get a coffee, chat for a while and then take a liesurely walk and take pics. Our largest group was twenty-something. I like this scenario because it gives options. It's fun to walk and have everyone take pics. Later you get to see everyones viewpoint visually! My daughter took me to the unkempt Nay Aug Park. I imagine it was a great place to go, back when people stayed closer to home. Bandshells and skating rinks were so much fun back then. Now we are so mobile and if not, have so many diversions (video games!) in our homes. As much as I enjoy baseball, I don't think I'd prefer three hours in my seat. It reminds me of a big mistake of taking a first date to the movie theatre. "a-w-k-w-a-r-d!"

I belong to a project committee of Leadership Lackawanna whose mission is to restore Hanlon's Grove.

Most of you will know Hanlon's Grove as the site of the former amphitheater over by the children's playground. Some of you may even remember the original Grove during its splendor with individual picnic areas and stone fireplace grills.

Our main goal is to restore the grove to to a functional picnic area that families and friends can enjoy for years to come.

The success of our project depends on support from the community. If you're interested in finding out more about our project or getting involved check out our website at: * - grovehome

I may be biased by my vote goes to Nay Aug!

Growing up, I loved both parks. Both were good for some off road biking, but Nay Aug had the zoo! And the little amusement park. Mcdade has the best kite flying hill in the summer, and sledding hill in the winter (if they still allow it). The lake at Mcdade is usually nice, both have some good amount of room to have picnics or get togethers, even if it's not around the pavilion.

Take off the Doherty-colored glasses. There are MAJOR problems with maintenance at Nay Aug. Go check out the playground and see all the garbage, broken equipment, graffiti. It was a nice playground when it was built just a few years ago, but now its a hazard and I refuse to take my kids there. Go see the Davis Trail and see all the erosion and ruts in the trail that we spent big bucks on......Indiana Jones would have trouble walking that trail, nevermind families with kids. That park is maintained pitifully and McDade is a much nicer, well-kept, clean park, and it is kept that way at a much lower price tag than Dohertyland, er, I mean Nay Aug.

The mayor is not the messiah, you know....

I like that, Dohertyland.. I've been lashing out against Obama so much on the other thread, I forgot about our other lame duck leader here in Scranton. Doherty should be really proud of what he has accomplished in Scranton
