Eventually the birds and ants eat them so I do not have squished ones all around. This only kills the ones that you spray, of course. I do not know of an actual prevention for them. I burned so many nests already but some are just to high and I have woods all aroung me but I try to protect the fruit trees as much as I can. Actually, that is what I am going home to do right now. If you do not break the nests open, no kind of spray will help. The nests are water proof and has many layers. Depending on the weather, they will climb into different layers. Good luck. I know I will need it too.
I see a bunch of them on one of my trees,I'm going to try that..thanks.

My friend squished a couple of nests with a giant rock. I don't quite have the stomach for that...smash, smash, smash. Eck!!

I should have secured a plastic bag around the nests BEFORE they all escaped. Oh, the horror of it all.

Windy days help launch them through the air, on their webs.

Default Could be worse than having box elder bugs!

I'm not certain which is worse to have. I once had a terrible problem with Box Elder bugs...also known as f--k bugs. That was in Calif. That was like a nightmare in itself! Not only are they attracted to each other, they are attracted to light colors and sunny areas. They turned up all of a sudden after I had my house painted from a dark color to a light color. Surprise! They loved it. I've seen a couple of stray ones since being here, in the east, but thankfully, I've not seen them around my place.

They're pretty awful. When one dies, they feed off of the dead one. I must say though, the babies don't look anything like the adults. They are actually rather cute looking....completely red, with little antennas sticking up.
