I know, a large area... Just the same I would appreciate your thoughts where a single, 55 y/o retiree might find a nice place to settle down. My most important requirement is the area be very quiet, peaceful, low traffic, clean, and not on top of others... Think a nice cabin in the woods/cottage on the lake kinda thing. Love to fish, target shoot, camp, hike, etc. Not sure of the prevailing attitude/politics of the region - I'm live and let live, respectful, not trying to change traditions or lifestyle of others, and expect the same in return.

I have not been to the area in many years and it seems to have changed a lot (some say for the worse?) from what I am discovering. I would be eager to continue my volunteer efforts, make friends, and be a good neighbor. Thanks for the help.

rather than the Poconos, I suggest you go a bit further west to Tioga or Potter counties. Maybe even a bit south, Elk, Forest, etc.
some might suggest Bradford but I think that;s a bit too populated for what you seem to be looking for.

Ë„ Agree. I'd also look at northern Wayne, Wyoming, Sullivan and Cameron.
