Finding something deer won't eat by Thomas Tabor from the March/April, 2006 issue of Countryside & Small Stock Journal

Plant things that deer won't/can't eat. Don't know about the bunnies though.

The author seems a little hostile towards city folks and that we should remain in the city !!!!

Yeah, but that does not reflect my feelings at all! Or anyone else here. But, it did have some info we all seem to need here, about those darn deer nibbling away at our purty flowers and trees and veggies.

I've lived in the country all my life, and I'm just as clueless as city folk when it comes to the wild life.

I am down to just having grass. Maybe after seeing my beautiful flower bed ruined , it's my frustration taking over. Funny enough we even sprayed the plants with that deer fence liquid and it didn't work. Maybe I can get my $ back on the spray! LOL

Hi Acevaz!! Hope you had a great 4th!!

When I lived up north I had 9 acres of woods surrounding me & all the critters that go with it!!

The way I kept them from nibbling my plants was to fill old stockings (not mine) with my hair clippings (when I HAD hair) or dog hair from brushing him & hang them at the perimeter of my flower beds.

The animals would smell the "human" or "dog" & leave that area alone!!

The bad side is that the stockings would have to be re-filled every month 'cause the scent would disappear!! (so if you get a lotta trims or have a shaggy dog it would work for you!!)

An old neighbor up there used to pee around his flower beds to keep the animals away!!! (don't ask me, I think it's kinda weird but he said it was like "marking his territory" & worked...)

Ahhhh....these old-fashioned home remedies...

JungleGeorge,

Thanks for the info. I think both suggestions are pretty interesting but I can definitely discount the peeing on the flowebeds. I am new to the neighborhood so I don't want to get a bad rap ,if you know what I mean. LOL

That's all I need to hear "Did you see those city folks peeing in their front yard" " They must do the same thing over there where they come from, there goes the neighborhood".
