Figuring the nice areas of Scranton (Honesdale, Wyoming: home, safe neighborhood, restaurant)

Is there a particular area of Scranton where one would find boutiques and "nicer" stores? I am not sure how to "wander" around Scranton the way I know Manhattan :0).

Also, are there nicer areas in the residential parts of town? I read about the "hills" area but I don't know what that means? TIA

You are so funny! LOL! I have really not been to adventurous but The Mall at Steam town has almost anything you might need.
It would be so nice if Scranton had such a place. On Adams Ave the is a boutique called Green Being which specializes in environmentaly friendly and recycled clothes. There is a cute shop on the West Side in a store front in a residential area. It's so cute. They have seasonal items. soaps. lotions all "kind to Mother Nature", hand painted items, inspirational goods (if that is a term) retro themed and locally made locally made items. They are VERY NICE IN THERE and it would be great to support a small local business...if only I were able to think of the name. Well its on a side street on the North Side of North main between the 600 and 700 bilock a nice little walk. Pretty safe neighborhood.

There's not really a key strip for such things. Downtown probably has the most boutique-y stores, but there's not a ton by any stretch.

Wander around the blocks around courthouse sq, especially Adams at / just north of the square, and Spruce by the square and west a couple blocks. The Steamtown mall is nearby, but not sure if anything there will fit your bill. A few other interesting shops on Center St., and maybe on Linden.

The Hill section is pretty much all residential. Nice (and hilly) to wander, but almost no shopping. The place Sheena mentioned in West Side sounds like the Willow Tree, on Oram just off Main. Good place. There may be some boutique-y stores in Greenridge Corners as well (Market St and Sanderson), but I'm not familiar with what's there.

There should be a "key strip" as you said. I think Adams might be a good block if anyone is looking to open a boutique or art gallery.

Yes, The Willow Tree, Blip. that's it. I bought my children Bert's bee's products there last year and some cute note cards so they could write me from camp.

My fave healthy restaurant in Eden on Adams Ave, It's Vegan, but before you wrinkle up your collective noses - give it a try. Some of the best veggie food I have had!

Gang activity? Care to elaborate. I have been to Steamtown several times and didn't see gang activity, or grafitti. I have seen a few kids with baggy pants with half their butt showing, but I have also seen them at the Viewmont Mall and Wyoming Valley Mall.

There is a really charming little store in West Side right on Main Ave...the name escapes me right now but it is near Mannings Ice Cream. It is in the same row of stores as PC Doctor...the opposite end as a matter of fact. You can park next to Faccia Luna.

Also on the corner of N. Main Ave there is a nice chic store for accessories and such...it is on the corner near DD and the Convient. It is right before Main and Providence split. Bullshead section I believe it is called.
