I'm looking for information on my grandfather who died in a Hudson Coal mine, Baltimore Tunnel No. 5, in 1923. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can look for information?

I did find one record at history.denverlibrary.org/sites/history/files/PAmineRegA1914-1923.pdf.

I'm assuming that the 1923 date is correct, but an explosion and fire in the Baltimore Tunnel No, 2, some four years before in 1919, ranks as one of the worst disasters in the history of the Anthracite Region; In 1913, the Commonwealth placed a historical marker commemorating it along Wilkes-Barre Boulevard,

Penn State has an extensive collecting on mining in PA on microfilm. For the Hudson Coal Company their records date 1871-1954 per the archive information. Seems all are located at the main campus in cold storage. You need to request them in advance to view.

From a quick Google search it seems most pages report info when 5 or more miners died. Was your grandfather the only fatality in that particular incident?

ETA:You may find this helpful, it's from the state archives. http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/...sInterface.htm
