That picture looks like the work of the Eastern Tent Caterpillar. They look very simiar to the Gypsy moth, and both can be quite destructive.

I tend to think gypsy moth, tent caterpillars are much earlier.

Tent caterpillars AKA Fall web worm. Gypsy moths are much earlier and dont build "nests".

i have been noticing caterpillars on my deck. Is this the same type and if they are are they a problem. I know this might be silly but i remember learning as a child that caterpillars turn into butterflies.:d

Not all caterpillars turn into butterflies. The tent caterpillars turn into moths I think!

How do you get rid of them?? In the spring my deck gets so full of them that you can't sit outside and enjoy the day. Any suggestions??
