For me personally this isn't a Doherty or DiBileo issue. The mayor has absolutely no control over the way parade participants or tourists conduct themselves, and any "Doomers" who blame this on the mayor will elicit nothing but jeers from me. However, I do NOT tolerate public intoxication, driving while under the influence, etc. under ANY circumstance. I have no qualms with someone throwing a few beers back with co-workers or friends every now and then, but in this area "chugging" is like a blood-sport!

Because they probably cornered them, scared the crap out of them and the students didn't know they could refuse. Certainly possible they were even lied too as I've had cops do it me... When I was that age I got in some minor trouble once and I sat in police station and listened to cop tell my old man a flat out lie, fortunately for me my father trusted me and knew I wouldn't lie to him.

As someone who is irish, I hate to see people so drunk that they puke or make a total show of themselves. We do drink, yes, we do. But we also know when to stop and when it is NOT ok to continue.

Pity the Irish werent known for their hard work and common sense and education instead of being drinkers. Actually most of my irish friends and family really dont drink that much at all ; maybe one or two drinks per week. Where were the parents of these cheerleaders??

I agree that many local cops have ATTITUDES.

This wasn't in the news until today. I don't see what it has to do with the election.

Not being parents, that's for sure.

Sure...its the police's fault, right??

The nonchalant "kids will be kids" attitudes on adults around here is why we have these problems. If that was one of my kids, I wouldn't be one of these jackass parents blaming the police and school administrators and making excuses. I'd thank the authorities, and then my kid would be in trouble at home too.

The parents might have even had the party themselves!

Ridiculous.

Speaking of which, whatever happened to Marisa Burke's party-loving husband? Didn't he send lewd pictures of himself to teenaged boys or something?

This has nothing to do the election nor was there any implication of the Doherty admin, this is about that stupid day that we call parade day and what it has turned into. The last 20 admins have done nothing to try and get this day turned around.

I would hope that the next mayor whomever it is will finally try and get the drinking under control on this day. Shut it down and make it a dry day if it is truely about the heritage and celebration of the irish in Scranton and just not an excuse to have a city-wide kegger.

Its kind of embarrasing when the the highschool cheerleaders are marching and puking while they're drunk on a Saturday morning underage. They should be charged with underage drinking and lose their licenses, make an example out of them so that next year they'll think twice. I guess since they just got a smack on the wrist I'm sure they'll be laughing about it next year when they are cracking some cold ones before the parade.
