We will be building next year and are considering this geothermal heat and a/c. Does anyone have any personal experience with it?

I am actually watching it be installed at my house right now. I am doing it with a pond, which you need a good bit of land for...most do it with wells, and some with trenches. I have a friend who is installing it with wells this week at her farm, and a friend who did it with wells last Fall. Everyone I've ever talked to about it is very happy with the results. There are a number of capable contractors around. One of them is my dad, but he only does commercial work so I won't recommend his name here.

MM, thanks! My in-laws friends have this and they seem to love it as well. We will be looking into Falcon Crest Builders who does it. It seems like a very practical thing to do. My husband would also love to install solar panels if he could.

Before moving to Scranton, I worked for a HVAC contractor that dealt primarily with Geothermal systems. I know that whenever I move to a home that has some property with it (not in the middle of the city) I intend to install it.
My best suggestion is to find the brand of system that you want & then see who they suggest as a contractor in your area. I dealt with WaterFurnace brand & would probably install that brand, since I'm so familliar with it.

Since it is a new home construction, I'd suggest using in-floor heat in as much of the home as you can with it. You can have the heat set at a lower temperature & be just as comfortable. Having your feet a warm, constant temp "fools" your brain into feeling warmer that the air actually is. You can have it set to 65 & feel like it's 68-70.
