Hi,

I'm looking at a job in Milford. I'm from NEPA so I know its a pretty area, but what are some decent subdivisions/neighborhoods?

The houses in Gold Key Lake are really reasonable. Why is this? Is it like one of the closed gated communities near Mt. Pocono or Stroudsburg, where there is a ton of trouble and drug problems?

I know its by a lake, which I love. I am really outdoorsy and want lots of land, so I don't mind if the houses are cheap because they are sort of "out there." But I don't want to be in the bad closed gated communities that the Poconos are starting to become famous for.

Thanks.

I'm not really familiar with Gold Key; only been in there once or twice. There are quite a few nice communities around the Milford area. Which one will suit you best will depend on how much you are able to pay, what amenities you want, and how close to Milford you wish to be.

I have friends who live in Conashaugh Lakes and they are happy - the homes are spread out on larger lots, but they are a bit more expensive there than in some of the other communities.

If you can afford the dues Hemlock Farms has terrific amenities - indoor and outdoor pools, teen center, beaches and nice lakes, activities, etc. Not many other communities offer as many amenities but the dues are also among the highest in the area and they're pretty strict w/ HOA rules.

Your best bet is to pick out a few houses in each community in your price range and go visit the community...see if you like the "feel" of it and then I would call the state police and ask how many reported incidents were called in for the particular communities. Some of them are not gated but several of them are gated and you won't be able to get in to drive around without someone getting you in.
