So, I realize this will be a long commute and I'm ok with that (for now).

But, I'm trying to figure out the best route.

Do you guys think:

Rt 7 to Georgetown Pike to GW Parkway to 395?

or Rt 7 to 495 around and up 295?

I know no combination will be great, but what do you think will move faster?

Thanks!

Avoid Route 7. Seriously.

Take either the Greenway ($$$) or Route 28 to the Dulles Toll Road ($). Avoiding Route 7 will be worth the couple of bucks for the Toll Road, particularly since you've got a long way to go from there.

I don't know about the rest of your journey, but I personally would go 495 to 295.

If I get on the toll road, its cheaper than if I use the greenway also right?

Like two bucks if I get on at 28?

I think 495 to 295 is your best bet. GW parkway at rush hour is a nightmare.

Yes, avoiding the Greenway will keep the toll lower. And, I would also recommend 495 to 295. 495 slows around Van Dorn to Eisenhower, but it generally is only a couple of minutes of slow traffic.

Here are the current and future rates: Dulles Toll Road: Toll Rates

Be sure to get an EZ-Pass so you don't have to sit at the toll plazas.

Yeah, I've got an ez-pass. I've just never really understood the difference between the greenway and toll road. I've driven both with the ezpass so I never really paid attention to what I paid.

But, the greenway is more expensive and based on where you get on and off and the toll road is a flat rate where-ever you get on or off?
