I hae a Payne PF4MNA025 HVAC system and it has a resuable/washable filter. I would like to change to disposable filter to remove more allergens. However, the standard air filters from the hopme improvment don't seem to fit the system. Anyone have any idea why does Payne do this and where I can get some. Also, will it affect the air flow with a different type of filter.

What are the dimensions of your washable filter (including the thickness of its frame)?

Take a look at http://www.oxyfilters.com/oxy-payne.html (broken link) I'm not sure if these are the brand of filters you want (they're kind of pricey), but it looks like the practical dimensions are the sizes offered at Loews, etc.

I was cautioned by my HVAC guy not to use highly efficent 3M-type filters because they do affect airflow, or if I do to change them very frequently. So I go with a lower-rating pleated filter from FlandersAir (sold at Lowes) and change them every 6 weeks (instead of the 3 months they recommend). They seem to be a good trade-off of air flow, effectiveness, and cost.
