There are lots of options available, and what is the best plan for you depends on your own unique needs. Do you have a medical condition that require treatment throughout the year? Then a plan with a low deductible (and higher premiums) might be best. Are you young and healthy? Then a more basic plan or a high deductible plan might work best for you. We switched last year from NALC to Aetna Consumer Driven plan--in terms of network (both are large) and ease of use, we were happy with both. Our total health care costs are much lower under Aetna because of our usage (You don't start paying a deductibel until you use us a $1500 fund that can roll over into the next year, and preventive dental care is included). Results may vary depending on your health care needs.

More control over who and when and which professional you see.

We have BC/BS Federal. We've had it for something like 10 years and never had a problem. However, you'll definitely want to buy supplemental Dental.

We use Aenta (Samba) DMO for dental insruance. Honestly, I'm not crazy about it. It can be hard to find providers. And the ones you do find are not the best. But the orthodontic coverage is outstanding. They'll pay 1/2 with no lifetime cap. That's unusual. Once my kids are out of braces, we'll probobly switch to something else.
