Ugly! At 11:30, it was at a speed limit clip.
I just did a little test drive left my building at 7 am. went 395 S to the beltway, already hit a little sluggish traffic around Braddock Rd and 236. From there it wasn't TOO hard. All in all, the whole thing took me about 30 minutes. I may want to push it and leave bout 7:15 next time and maybe do 236 to the beltway.

Cool! Sounds like that trip gets about a 98. Had a good beat...I could dance to it. Some days, the same trip may get a 40, though... :-)

Default McLean

My mother and my sister are moving to NoVa in the fall. My mom's job is at Bank of America in McLean. She makes about $60K. What's the nearest town that she can afford to live in and still be close to McLean?

my mom makes around the same amount. we live fine with just me and her on 60k on the west end of alexandria. it is also not that bad of a commute. i just got hired @ wachovia (lil rivalry) and currently working in McLean b4 i get placed in alexandria. it took me about 25-30 min leaving at 7 and 15-20 min getting back leaving at 4:30.

Those commute times are perfect for her. What about the east end? Were those times on the parkway?

The GW Parkway north to Rte 123 south would be consistently speed limit all the way to McLean once you broke free of the mess around I-395 and the 14th Street Bridge. Everything would depend on how long it would take you to accomplish that...

What about from Franconia to McLean?

From Franconia, the first thing to try would be Van Dorn to the Beltway to either 7 or 123, depending on where in McLean. Van Dorn and the Beltway can be a real mess at the height of rush hour, but if you could time-shift a little to avoid the worst of that, you'd have a daily commute that would range from easy to terrible, depending on the unpredictable state of the inner loop...
