Hmmm. That might not be the most unbiased view ever. That little niche does seem nice, and certainly Belle View and Belle Haven across the street are perfectly nice, but there are some things about the Route-1 Corridor in general that people find not all that attractive...

Ha, did that post get removed? The link mentioned didn't even exist, I think.

This thread has been a great deal of help in allowing me to expand my options and better balance location v. amentieis.

One more question (didn't want to start a new thread) - If I lived by Huntington Metro, would the commute to Langley be a disaster by car? I imagine GW Parkway northbound gets backed up near 395 to DC? How about Route 1 and in Alexandria?

If I can't find a place, there's always moving in with my parents in Silver Spring for a little while. I'd just have to constantly remind myself how much money I'm saving while sitting in traffic.

Both Route-1 and the Parkway are just plain terrible northbound through downtown Alexandria during the a.m. rush. They are just city streets a couple of blocks apart with plenty of lights and a million cars on them. Once you get north of 395 and the 14th Street Bridge, the Parkway should thin out pretty well, and once you're past Rosslyn and Key Bridge, it will be a speed limit pace the rest of the way to Langley.
